Over the five years of my involvement, Spectrum Literary Arts Magazine has changed drastically. We've rebranded, reimagined our values to better support our artistic side, and radically changed our structure to create opportunities for involvement for both our members and the public. We brought numerous speakers to campus, hosted events, and ran a variety of educational workshops for our creative community. I joined this magazine in my first week at Northeastern and I believe this magazine shows my growth as a designer as no other project does. This work–giving voices to the artists and writers at Northeastern–has always been closest to my heart.

ISSUES
2016-2019
I first took leadership at Spectrum as Creative Director, after participating in Layout Committee for years. I was the first design student to take the role in many terms–Spectrum had slowly lost most of its designers, instead attracting a variety of prose-inclined students to the task of putting the magazine together. Our reputation for design on campus had severely fallen.

In designing for the magazine, attending conferences, and meeting with professors, I began pinpointing and planning for the mistakes we were making in our designs. By the end of my first term, I had started to reimagine our design standard and create a system for future designers to follow. The next step: an official redesign.

REDESIGN
2017
I began our official redesign in the summer of 2017–a project that would be revised for months. At the time, our brand sorely needed reimagining as our only piece of branding was a logo that involved random splashes of colour behind an unidentified typeface. 

After discussing Spectrum's new direction with the other officers for months, I created a new logo–one that mimicked a magazine flipping open and referenced a creative spark when in full colour. Next followed a full colour palette and official typefaces. I then wrote all the content for the brand book I wrapped up nearly a year later.
